Visit Delegation Diet Member's Council for Comprehensive Security to NATO

On Wednesday, September 9, and Thursday, September 10, we hosted a delegation from the Diet Member's Council for Comprehensive Security (DMCCS) led by NAKATANI Gen, Head of the Japanese Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA).
September 9: Meetings with Defense Industry and Secretary General Mark RUTTE
On the 9th, the delegation drove to Sint-Truiden to visit DronePort, a drone testing site built by refashioning a Belgian Air Force base, and it's become a hub for drone technology development.
Later in the day, the delegation met with Secretary General Mark RUTTE.For MP NAKATANI it was a warm reunion, having first met Secretary General RUTTE in 2025 during his first visit to the Indo-Pacific region as NATO Secretary General.
The discussion underlined the strategic importance of NATO’s partnership with Japan to address security challenges across the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific regions.
Afterwards, the delegation met with representatives of several Belgian defence companies at the offices of Agoria – Belgian Security & Defence Industry (BSDI).
In the evening, we hosted a meeting at the Ambassador’s Residence, bringing together several of Japan’s leading companies to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges they face as they expand their business into a new region.
September 10: Chair of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe CAVO DRAGONE
Thursday morning, the MP’s headed to the #NATO HQ once more, to meet with the Chair of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe CAVO DRAGONE. This was again a warm reunion for MP NAKATANI, as the two met almost exactly a year ago in Tokyo.
Later, the delegation visited the NATO PA, where they met with NATO PA Secretary General Benedetta BERTI. The discussion highlighted the vital role of the NATO PA as a democratic bridge between NATO and the national parliaments of Allies and partners.
Afterwards the delegation met with Ms. Darya SAFAI, Head of the Belgian Delegation at the NATO PA, over lunch to discuss different challenges facing the international security environment.
