The Mission of Japan to NATO is looking for a new local staff member who can start working from January 2026 onward for the below-stated position. The contract period is 6 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance.

As a local staff member of the Security Section, you will assist diplomatic staff with various tasks related to our Mission to NATO, including:
- Researching specific areas as requested by the diplomatic staff;
- Assisting with fact-checking, proofreading, and editing of written materials;
- Attending meetings, taking notes, and writing summary reports of outside policy briefings, conferences, forums, and symposiums;
- Tracking English language news and data sources on NATO and composing daily a policy report summarizing relevant news and articles about NATO and defense-issues;
- Providing administrative support to the diplomatic staff;
- Coordinating contact with think tanks, experts, and other Mission contacts;
- Providing support across departmental lines upon request.
2. Profile
- Valid work permit in Belgium;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- Business-level proficiency in English;
- Familiarity with topics surrounding national security, defense, and international relations;
- Strong research, proofreading, editing, and organizational skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualitifactions:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field;
- Demonstrated knowledge in NATO, military matters, and international politics;
- Proficiency in French (knowledge of other major NATO-allied languages such as German or knowledge of Japanese would also be considered an advantage).
- Experience utilizing qualitative and quantitative research methods, data collection and analysis, or similar.
3. Salary and Working Hours
・Monthly salary 2,500 – 3,800 euro (Gross salary. This is a salary guideline: experience, etc. will be considered)
・Monday to Friday. Full-time 38h/week (in accordance with Belgian legislation)
