Conferral of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg (Spring 2025)

On 29 April 2025, the Government of Japan announced that it would bestow the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on former NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg as part of the 2025 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. During his term in office, Mr. Stoltenberg made great efforts to strengthen Japan-NATO relations through his two visits to Japan, as well as by inviting the Indo-Pacific partners (IP4), including Japan, to the NATO summit meetings for three consecutive years.
